Community Outreach
I volunteer for Macomb Habitat for Humanity. I think it is a worthy cause that helps people when they need it most. This organization uses houses or land to develop or refurbish homes for people who are not economically advantaged to purchase one themselves. I started volunteering for this organization about 3 years ago, during my sophomore year. I have painted rooms, stained molding, cleared vacant lots, hammered dry wall, patched walls and laid flooring. Although it is hard work, I think it is worth it and I like to help others. One of Habitat's rules is that the family that is planning on living in the home, must volunteer their time working as well. In addition, local businesses and contractors donate their time and supplies.
